Accident claims life of Dover teen

WASHINGTON — Ariel Ingoglia, an 18-year-old girl from Dover Plains, died Sunday, Jan. 3, after her car overturned and sank in an icy pond.

A press release from New York State Police reported Ingoglia was traveling west on Route 343 in the town of Washington in a 2006 Jeep at approximately 10:18 a.m., east of Butts Hollow Road, when she drove off the roadway, struck a guardrail and traveled down an embankment, where her vehicle overturned and was almost completely submerged in six feet of water after breaking through the ice of a frozen pond.

About 20 members of Millbrook Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 call reporting the accident. State police and deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office were also present on the scene. The vehicle was towed out of the water by several tow trucks.

Ingoglia, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, had a weak pulse when she was removed from the car. She was listed in critical condition and taken to Sharon Hospital by Millbrook Fire Department Ambulance, where she died later in the day.

A representative from the state police said there was no further information as to the cause of the accident by press time. Ingoglia’s family could not be reached for comment.
