Cinnamon-applesauce ornaments

The holidays are upon us and those who craft are working furiously. A few years ago, I found this recipe for applesauce ornaments. I liked the results so much that we’ve added these fragrant ornaments to our holiday to-do list.

Cinnamon-applesauce ornaments
(NOT edible)
3/4 cup applesauce
1 tablespoon nutmeg
4 ounces cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons white glue

Mix all the ingredients together. Knead the dough and roll it out with a rolling pin. Cut with cookie cutters. I recommend keeping the dough thick so the ornaments do not break as easily.

Make a hole in the top of each ornament with a straw. Lay on racks, turning frequently, until dry. It could take up to a week for the ornaments to dry completely.

Use leftover materials, such as scraps of yarn, fishing line, ribbon, raffia, twine, etc., to hang the ornaments. Loop through the hole in the top and tie in a bow.

These ornaments smell great and will last for years, if treated carefully. You can also make them for other holidays by using appropriately themed cookie cutters.

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
