Mary A. Kyle

MILLERTON — Mary A. Kyle, 95, a one-and-a-half-year Millerton resident, formerly of Sag Harbor, N.Y., died Dec. 12, 2009, at her home.  

Mrs. Kyle was an executive secretary for the administrator of Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx and later worked as the registrar for the hospital’s School of Nursing.  

Born May 12, 1914, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Clark) and James Johnson.  

She was a graduate of the Grace Institute in Manhattan and attended Fordham University in the Bronx.  On Oct. 29, 1944, in the Bronx, she married Charles P. Kyle, who died Dec. 16, 1999.  

A member of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Sag Harbor, she was very devoted to her family and career and was a woman of strong faith.  

Mrs. Kyle is survived by two sons, James Kyle and his wife, Bunny, of Clinton, Conn., and Dennis Kyle and his wife, Maria, of Millerton; five grandchildren, Jennifer Manstrelli, Jessica Curran, Christopher Kyle, Patrick Ficorilli and Sara Molgano; two great-grandsons, Robert and Christopher Manstrelli; and two nephews, George and Charles Blank.   

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Regina Kyle and Kathleen (Kyle) Ficorilli; two brothers, Charles and James Johnson; and a sister, Eleanor Blank.

Arrangements are under the care of the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains.  A Mass of Christian burial was held Dec.16 at St. Andrew’s R.C. Church in Sag Harbor. Burial was at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Sag Harbor.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
