Frank Carl Arrigoni

EAST CANAAN — Frank Carl Arrigoni, 78, of Allyndale Road, died suddenly while surrounded by his loving family on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 26, 2009. His beloved wife, Betty Ann (Gleeson) Arrigoni, predeceased him on Jan. 3, 2006.  

Frank was born in Torrington on July 6, 1931, son of the late Charles and Elsie (Minacci) Arrigoni.

Frank was a mechanic. He operated Frank’s Shell Service in Norfolk, which he started in the early 1960s. In 1971, he opened Frank’s Garage in East Canaan, which he ran until retiring in 1985. Never one to sit still, Frank began a new career after retiring from the garage. He opened Frank’s Firearms in East Canaan.  Frank served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 in the U.S. Air Force.  

His first love was his family, both immediate and extended. His second love was the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the trips he took to visit his son’s family in Maine. Frank also was a jack-of-all-trades. He was skilled at working in both metal and wood. If something was broke, Frank could fix it.

He is survived by his son Charles “Chuck� Arrigoni and his wife, Laurie, of Winterport, Maine; his daughter, Carol Ann Arrigoni of Falls Village; and his four grandchildren, Cameron and Marissa of Winterport and Thomas and Daniel of Falls Village.

Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be sent to the Lyme Disease Foundation, PO Box 332, Tolland, CT 06084-0332.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
