Man charged with negligent homicide

NORFOLK — A Bristol man faces criminal charges for his involvement in an April 3 motor vehicle accident along Route 44 in Norfolk that led to the death of a Massachusetts woman.

Kyle Wentland, 25, of Root Avenue in Bristol was arrested by the Winsted Police Department Monday, Oct. 25, and charged with negligent homicide with a commercial motor vehicle and failure to drive right on a curve.

Officer Philip Bialoglowy led the investigation into the incident, which was conducted by the Northwest Regional Accident Investigation Team, Winsted Deputy Chief Robert Scannell said.

According to police, Wentland was driving a tractor trailer toward Winsted along Route 44 in Norfolk when he drove around a right-hand curve, crossed the road’s center line, veered into the opposing lane and then struck a Saturn Vue driven by Heather Gunther, 33, of Ashley Falls, Mass.

Both drivers were traveling over the state road’s 50 mile per hour speed limit, police said.

Neither Wentland nor Gunther were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident, Scannell said.

If convicted, Wentland faces up to six months in prison and/or a $2,500 fine.

Wentland was held on a $50,000 bond. He appeared in Bantam Superior Court on Monday.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
