No movement yet on cell tower

CORNWALL — A cell tower application by Verizon Wireless to the Connecticut Siting Council has not yet been filed.

Kenneth Baldwin, attorney for Verizon, advised The Journal by e-mail late last week that materials are still being pulled together to complete the application.

The cellular communications company is working toward completing coverage here with a series of towers. The latest proposed tower would be placed at one of two sites, on a ridge line above Popple Swamp Road. The intent is to supply coverage to Route 7, between  West Cornwall and Cornwall Bridge, as well as the Appalachian Trail on the ridge on the opposite side of Route 7.

The company advised the town of its plans July 21. They are required to wait at least 60 days before filing with the state. Baldwin had said they intended to do so as early as possible.

The proposal has sparked a mixed reaction from residents, who along with the Housatonic Valley Association, are closely following potential issues of environmental and other impacts. An initial siting council hearing will be held in Cornwall at a future date.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
