New senior center director steps down

COLEBROOK — The Colebrook Senior and Community Center is once again looking for a new director.

Only days after officially taking the reins on Sept. 8, the center’s newly hired head, Amy Adams, stepped down from her post.

Colebrook First Selectman Thomas McKeon told The Journal Tuesday that Adams’ decision to leave her position so soon came as a surprise to town officials.

In an interview published in last week’s Journal, Adams said she was enjoying her new role at the center and that “so far, it has just been a wonderful experience.â€

McKeon said the longtime Torrington resident cited personal reasons for her resignation.

Over the last several years Adams — who had been hired to replace the center’s former director Anne Thibault — served as a paraprofessional and preschool teacher.

While the town looks for a new pool of candidates to interview for the position, McKeon said the center’s board of directors will run the facility.

He added the town hopes to have a new executive director in place by the end of next month.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
