Grant is for road repair in state park

KENT — As part of the state’s Recreational Trails Program, the state has allocated $50,000 to restore a historic road that had previously collapsed in Macedonia Brook State Park.

According to Dwayne Gardner, Communications Officer for the Department of Environmental Protection, the road, which is two miles long, was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

For the past few years, before it collapsed, it was used as a trail by hikers.

“It’s seen better days, Gardner said. “There has been some erosion going on on the eastern side of the trail, and some parts of the wall have been broken up and it toppled over.

Gardner said repair work on the road began earlier this month.

As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
