Housy wrestlers take some falls at tourney, match

The Housatonic wrestling team competed in a dual meet against Suffield and Joel Barlow Saturday, Jan. 24. Housy fell to Suffield, 39-38, but defeated Joel Barlow, 60-18.

Housy vs. Suffield

At 103 pounds, Kevin Arel (Housatonic) won by forfeit.

At 112 pounds, Jarred Foley (Housatonic) was pinned by Kevin Bentz (Suffield) in 3:43 minutes.

At 119 pounds, Nameer Abou-Hamze (Housatonic) was pinned by Joe Gleason (Suffield) in 1:10 minutes.

At 125 pounds, Corey Allen (Suffield) won by forfeit.

At 130 pounds, Keith Brown (Suffield) won by forfeit.

At 135 pounds, Will Schutt (Housatonic) was pinned by Ryan Buckingham (Suffield) in 27 seconds.

At 140 pounds, Azmi Hamideh (Suffield) won by forfeit.

At 145 pounds, Steven Wingard (Housatonic) pinned Tim Buckingham (Suffield) in 1:45 minutes.

At 152 pounds, Ryan MacLaren (Housatonic) pinned Dan D’Ostuni (Suffield) in 2:36 minutes.

At 160 pounds, captain Sam Schwartz (Housatonic) won by forfeit.

At171 pounds, captain Bradley Visconti (Housatonic) lost a decision to Kyle Sheridan (Suffield), 15-0.

At 189 pounds, Ben Schwartz (Housatonic) won a decision against Jamal Saleh (Suffield), 12-5.

At 215 pounds, Ed Bailey (Housatonic) lost an overtime decision to John Kopec (Suffield), 11-9.

At 285 pounds, Cody Morrison (Housatonic) was pinned by Greg Paquette (Suffield) in 5:03 minutes.

At 140 pounds, Austin Altiero (Joel Barlow) won by forfeit.

At 145 pounds, Steven Wingard (Housatonic ) won by forfeit.

At 152 pounds,  Ryan MacLaren (Housatonic) won by forfeit.

At 160 pounds, Captain Sam Schwartz (Housatonic) pinned Matt Walsh (Joel Barlow) in 52 seconds.

At 171 pounds, Captain Bradley Visconti (Housatonic) pinned Yago Carniero (Joel Barlow) ing 1:18 minutes.

At 189 pounds, Ben Schwartz (Housatonic) pinned Brandon Dominguez (Joel Barlow) in 4:56 minutes.

At 215 pounds, Ed Bailey (Housatonic)  was pinned  by Chris Baksay (Joel Barlow) in 24 seconds.

At 285 pounds, Cody Morrison (Housatonic) won by forfeit.

At home Wednesday, Feb. 4, the Mountaineer grapplers fell to Nonnewaug, 45-30.

At 103 pounds, Kevin Arel (Housatonic) pinned Alex Paparazzo(Nonnewaug) in 2:22 minutes.

At 112 pounds, Jarred Foley (Housatonic) was pinned by Austin Hodges (Nonnewaug) in 3:46 minutes.

At 119 pounds, Nameer Abou-Hamze (Housatonic) was pinned by Nick Menzella(Nonnewaug) in 2:17 minutes.

At 125 pounds, Tyler Tilbe (Nonnewaug) won by forfeit.

At 130 pounds, Kevin Paz-Leal (Housatonic) lost a decision to Andrew Miller (Nonnewaug), 4-3.

At 135 pounds, Will Schutt (Housatonic) was pinned by Erik Krieg (Nonnewaug) in 59 seconds.

At 140 pounds, Dan Denslow (Nonnewaug) won by  forfeit.

At 145 pounds, Steven Wingard (Housatonic) pinned Mike DiMaio (Nonnewaug) in 2:41 minutes.

At 152 pounds, Ryan MacLaren (Housatonic) won  by forfeit.

At 160 pounds, captian Sam Schwartz (Housatonic) won a decision against DJ Hardisty (Nonnewaug), 10-4.

At 171 pounds, captain Bradley Visconti (Housatonic) pinned John Hutter (Nonnewaug) in 1:27 minutes.

At 189 pounds, Ben Schwartz (Housatonic) won a decision against Corey Potoniec (Nonnewaug), 11-5.

At 215 pounds, Ed Bailey (Housatonic) was pinned by Kyle Bucciarelli (Nonnewaug) in 1:03 minutes.

At 285 pounds, Cody Morrison (Housatonic) was pinned by Ronnie Walter (Nonnewaug) in 1:49 minutes.

NORFOLK — Robert J. Pallone, 69, of Perkins St. passed away April 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was a loving, eccentric CPA. He was kind and compassionate. If you ever needed anything, Bob would be right there. He touched many lives and even saved one.

Bob was born Feb. 5, 1955 in Torrington, the son of the late Joesph and Elizabeth Pallone.

Cornwall Library

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
