John T. Baldwin Jr.

PINE PLAINS — John T. Baldwin Jr., 78,  passed away Nov. 19, 2008, at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

On July 7, 2001, at the Bangall United Methodist Church he married Marjorie (Wesley) Baldwin. She survives him at home.

He was born on March 25, 1930, in White Plains, N.Y., the son of the late  Evelyn (Bayles) and John T. Baldwin Sr.

John was a first-class lineman for Central Hudson. He retired in 1990.

He was an avid gardener and provided his friends and neighbors with many fresh vegetables. He also had a great love for piloting.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include a son, John T. Baldwin III, and his wife, Toni, of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; a daughter, Colleen, and her husband, Jeffrey Daley, of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; a son, Terry Baldwin, and his wife, Sherri, of Stanfordville, N.Y.; a brother, Francis Baldwin, and his wife, Linda, of Gallatin, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Ann, and her husband, David Jones, of Pine Plains; his grandchildren, Tim Baldwin and his wife, Jen, Shannon and her husband, Staff Sgt. James Ferguson, Christopher A. Daley and Brandon Daley; his great-grandchildren, Tyler Baldwin, Brittany Baldwin, Aaron C. Daley and Kaden N. Daley; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of the Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains. A funeral service was held Nov. 24 at Bangall United Methodist  Church, the Rev. Steve Knutsen officiating.

Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Pine Plains Rescue Squad, PO Box 100, Pine Plains, NY 12567; or the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
