Robert C. Kilmer Sr.

NORFOLK —Robert C. Kilmer Sr., 74, died after a long illness on April 24, 2008, at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford.  He was the husband of Virginia A. (Roddy) Kilmer.

He was born in Sharon on June 30, 1933, the son of Julius Kilmer Jr. of Dover Plains and Theresa Savoy Kilmer of Waterbury.

He served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. Mr. Kilmer was employed by Becton Dickinson in North Canaan, retiring after 30 years of service in 1994.  

He was a 30-year resident of Ashley Falls, Mass.

Mr. Kilmer is survived by his son, Robert Kilmer Jr. of Ashley Falls; two daughters, Melissa Kilmer of Austerlitz, N.Y., and Jeanine Hodgkiss of East Canaan; two brothers, Raymond Kilmer of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Harvey Kilmer of Dover Plains; two sisters, Theresa Wood of Syracuse, N.Y., and Janice Christiansen of Dover Plains, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Sonia Padelli, Jessica Echisted, Robert Bernard Kilmer, Harrison Julius Kilmer, Angel Frances Wheeler, and Shane Jay Wheeler; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Coons of Chatuge, N.Y.

Funeral services with military honors were held April 30 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Sheffield, Mass. Burial followed in Ashley Falls Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
