Pink's NFL Picks 11-30-07

Last week’s record, 9-7; for the season, 100-61

Pick of the Week, 1-0; for the season, 9-3

As for going 9-7 over the long Thanksgiving weekend, it could have been a lot worse, so I’m not going to complain. We’re getting down to the real nitty-gritty when it comes to who’s getting into the playoffs, so let’s get on with this week’s action.

Thursday, Nov. 29

Green Bay at Dallas

— I doubt the schedule makers had any idea that both of these teams would be sporting 10-1 records coming into the game. I’m not a big fan of either team, but I do like the overall balance that the Cowboys have on both sides of the ball. In the end, I think Dallas will have more success running the ball, so I see them coming out out on top, 37-34.

Sunday, Dec. 2

New York Jets at Miami

— All right, folks, you heard it here first: The Jets may be the first victim of the year for the winless Dolphins. Unfortunately for Miami, the Jets have had 10 days to get ready for this game and that means they extend the Dolphins’ losing streak another week. I’ll take the Jets in this one, 20-9.

Houston at Tennessee

— A couple of weeks ago the Titans looked like a sure bet for the playoffs, but that’s not the case now. Houston will provide a stern test, but in the end I like the Titans to win this one, 20-17.

Detroit at Minnesota

— Both of these teams still have a chance at the playoffs. I’m not sold on either team, but I think the Vikings are gaining some momentum and therefore I’ll stick with them, 27-21.

Buffalo at Washington

— A loss by the Redskins would pretty much eliminate them from any chance of the playoffs. With that said, they will have to beat a feisty Bills team to stay in the hunt. I think they will in a close one, 20-17.

Atlanta at St. Louis

— With this game on tap, it should be a big shopping day in St. Louis. I’m still pulling for the Falcons in the post-Vick era, so I’m taking Atlanta in this sleeper, 17-16.

Jacksonville at Indianapolis

— There’s no better time than the present for the Jags to go into Indy and beat the Colts. Still, I’m sticking with the Colts, 24-20.

San Diego at Kansas City

— This is absolutely another must-win for the Chargers. I’ll make this game my Pick of the Week, with the Chargers winning, 31-17.

Seattle at Philadelphia

— With the Giants playing poorly, this game is huge for the Eagles. Seattle always seems to struggle in big games on the road, so I’m going with the Eagles, 21-14.

San Francisco at Carolina

— It’s hard to believe the Panthers have not won a game at home (0-5). In this year of streaks, I’ll go with the 49ers to extend the Panthers’ home losing streak, 23-21.

Denver at Oakland

— The Broncos are on life support, but they are still alive in the division race. Unfortunately, they won’t be after this week. I’ll take the Raiders in this one, 21-17.

Cleveland at Arizona

— These are two teams that I like, but someone has to lose. I’m going with the Browns in this one, 27-20.

New York Giants at Chicago

— There may be only one way for the Giants to turn themselves around and that’s for me to pick them to lose. With that said, I’m going with the Bears, 21-20.

Tampa Bay at New Orleans

— The Saints haven’t shown that they can win a big game on the road, so I’m forced to stick with the Bucs, 21-20.

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh

— The Bengals’ sometimes potent offense came alive this week and that’s no surprise. Unfortunately for them, the Steelers’ offense will come alive against the porous Bengals defense. I’ll stick with the Steelers in this shootout, 34-30.

Monday, Dec. 3

New England at Baltimore

— Everyone is gunning for the Patriots. I just hope they can stay away from injuries in this game. I like New England, 31-10.

The artistic life of Joelle Sander

"Flowers" by the late artist and writer Joelle Sander.

Cornwall Library

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
