Superintendent Awards - Lee H. Kellogg

FALLS VILLAGE — Spend a few minutes with Jaime Conklin and you’ll want to conquer the world. The eighth-grader at Lee H. Kellogg was awarded this year’s Region One Litchfield County superintendent’s award for the school, in part for her willingness to step up and be a leader.

"I like having some control," Jaime said of her affinity for leadership, "but not being bossy."

Since sixth grade, Jaime has been co-chair of the student council and likes "to help people" — be it socially, academically or athletically. Her enthusiasm for everything and her positive attitude about school have been described as infectious.

Jaime is diligent about her studies and has received high marks consistently. Her favorite subjects include geometry and Spanish, but her favorite teacher is Paula Rogers in English literature. She loves animals and the outdoors and is a three-sport athlete: soccer, basketball and softball.

The daughter of Cindy and George Conklin, Jaime hopes to attend either Hotchkiss or Housatonic Valley Regional High School next year.

"Jaime’s positive attitude, academic standards and dedication to learning make her an outstanding candidate for the LCSA Award," said Patricia Chamerblain, the Region One superintendent.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
