Housy Girls B-Ball Team Ready for Senior Night Feb. 13


FALLS VILLAGE —The Housatonic girl’s varsity basketball team came back from a three-point deficit at halftime to beat Litchfield 47-34 on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Housy outscored Litchfield 13-4 in the third quarter and 17-10 in the fourth to come away with the win. Paxton Thornton had a game-high 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and six steals; Allycia Reel put in eight points, and added three steals and two assists; Sawyer Thornton had eight points and 11 rebounds; and Lily Belter added five points.

With the win, the Mountaineers evened their season record at 9-9.

The JV team lost a squeaker to Litchfield, 29-27, in the early game Tuesday.

Join the girls at the Housatonic Valley Regional High School gym on Tuesday, Feb. 13, for Senior Night (vs. Thomaston). Junior varsity plays at 5:30 and varsity plays at 7 p.m.

The varsity team qualified for the state tournament with a 47-35 win over Terryville Feb. 2. The Mountaineers led by only five at the quarter but kept up steady pressure throughout the game. Paxton Thornton led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds; Sheri Boardman and Elissa Whitmore each had eight points, the latter with two three-pointers. Boardman also grabbed 10 rebounds.

 

Sawyer Thornton had seven points in the game and Reel had three assists.

The varsity defeated Oliver Wolcott 67-30 on Jan. 30. All 12 girls scored in the contest. Meanwhile, the junior varsity team won their game 41-27, with Alissa Riley and Jackie Underwood the leading scorers with 10 points apiece.

The girls lost to first place Nonnewaug 38-62 on Jan. 26, but the junior varsity squad won 30-27 on Keri Perotti’s dramatic steal and lay-up in the final seconds.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
