Marie V. Turgeon


WINSTED — Marie V. Turgeon, 94, of the Chestnut Grove apartments, died Dec. 13, 2006, at Laurel Hill Healthcare. She was the wife for 56 years of the late Hector J. Turgeon, who died in 1993.

Born June 9, 1912, in St. Raphael, Quebec, she was the daughter of Lydia (Roy) and Prudent Gonthier. She came to Winsted from St. Raphael in 1929. She married her husband in 1937. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Winsted and a member of the Winsted Senior Center.

She is survived by three sons, Hector Turgeon and his wife, Linda, of Winsted, Robert Turgeon of New Hartford (who was married to the late JoAnn M.) and Raymond Turgeon of Newington; three daughters, Lillian Sampson and her husband, Arthur, of Winsted, Loretta Turgeon of Torrington and Jeannette Neary and her husband, Robin, of Warren, N.J.; a sister, Antoinette Beaudoin of Winsted; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Julia Picard.

Funeral services were Dec. 18 from Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted, to St. Joseph’s Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial was at the St. Joseph’s New Cemetery, Winsted.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
