100 years ago — August 1913

SALISBURY — Mr. and Mrs. James R. Wilson and family have moved to the Davis Ore bed.

The Under mountain road is again open to Sheffield after being closed nearly a year for state road work. It has been widened and new gravel has been used. After a little smoothing up and removal of loose stones the road will probably be a very good piece of highway.

In compliance with the new state law fire escapes will be placed on the Salisbury and Lakeville High schools.

LIME ROCK — Mrs. C.W. Barnum is out of town this week on a motoring trip.

50 years ago — August 1963

CANAAN — Mrs. Amherst Eaton, art teacher at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, is attending A Symposium on Art at Syracuse University this week.

FALLS VILLAGE — A four-foot rattlesnake, which had obviously been run over by a heavy vehicle, was found dead at the side of the road over Canaan Mountain last Thursday. Members of the town road crew discovered the reptile when coming to work in the morning. They reported that it had 13 rattles.

SHARON — Mr. and Mrs. Francis X. Cole, formerly of West Cornwall, moved to their new home in Sharon on Monday. They have purchased the home of Joseph F. Steegmuller and the estate of Maude G. Steegmuller, which consists of a house, barn and 3.5 acres of land on the Sharon- Lakeville Road.

FALLS VILLAGE — Linda Wilson of New York City is spending two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Atwood on Belden Street. The visit was arranged through the Fresh Air Fund.

CORNWALL — Mr. and Mrs. William Dinneen and son Bill are vacationing at Cape Cod this week.

25 years ago — August 1988

KENT — The Kent Summer Fair Days will be held in downtown Kent Aug. 18-21. Included in the four days of events is a celebration of the town’s 250th birthday.
