Campers deploy to Sloane

LAKEVILLE—Seventeen children gathered at Camp Sloane YMCA on the shores of Lake Wononpakook (or Long Pond, as it’s also known) on Aug. 7 for a visit by the National Guard — and a tour of a military Humvee.

The youngsters might not have been as impressed by the “rolling steel” as regular campers might have been. This was a special group — all of them are children of military personnel.
