Fishing season opener reels in area anglers

Anyone who drives along the Housatonic River on a regular basis knows that, for many fishermen, fishing season began a few weeks ago. The river has been crowded with mayflies and other attractive insects, and they’ve been luring the trout — and the fishermen and women who love those trout.

Anglers have reported exceptional conditions this year, with the water low and clear and the fish fat and happy.

But for fishing fans across the state, the season doesn’t really begin until the official opening day, which this year was on Saturday, April 21.
