100 years ago — April 1912
SALISBURY — At both churches Sunday, the services and sermons were memorials to Titanic’s dead.

LIME ROCK — Fred Rapp has taken a position as moulder in the shop, and will move his family here soon.

SALISBURY — J.R. Melvin is driving a fine young horse which he recently purchased.

LIME ROCK — The blast furnace was started this week.

A macadam road from Indian Lake to Millerton is to be constructed. The Lane Construction Co. of Meriden secured the contract by submitting the lowest bid, $24,743.40.

50 years ago — April 1962
CORNWALL — Mr. and Mrs. Constant Beauty of Cornwall Bridge will observe their 60th wedding anniversary April 29th with “Open House” to be held at their home from 2 to 5 p.m.

FALLS VILLAGE — Sheldon Sinclair, son of Mrs. Lincoln Foster of Undermountain Road, has recently received a raise in rating to Machinists Mate 3rd Class. He is with the U.S. Navy stationed in Istanbul, Turkey.

SHARON — A small one-room house on Deer Mountain Road near the West Cornwall line burned to the ground on Wednesday evening of last week. The unoccupied house, owned by George Swaller, was burning furiously when a neighbor noticed the smoke coming from the windows and called the West Cornwall Fire Company at about 7:45 p.m.

25 years ago — April 1987
A lone red Datsun 300ZX raced around the Lime Rock race track. The driver was Tom Cruise and his passenger/instructor was recent Academy Award- winning actor Paul Newman. Far from the eye of Hollywood, movie cameras and makeup artists, these two screen idols were only concerned with the twists, turns and movement of the 300ZX.

Northeast Utilities announced April 21 that it will not build an $11.4 million addition to its Falls Village hydroelectric plant unless the economy changes dramatically. The proposed addition would have increased the generating capacity of the plant from 10,000 to approximately 16,500 kilowatts.
