It is time for the annual tackle-fondling column. This year’s edition is a little different, since this space has been recognized by the New England Newspaper and Press Association.

Yes, “Tangled Lines” is a third-place winner in the “Goofy Sportswriting” category — for the second time.

I wonder what has to happen to win second place. Make the columns half as long?

This major award means I can bask in the warm glow of recognition of my peers — in lieu of something useful, such as cash.
