The pluses and perils of piping

Lee Collins said the sound of the bagpipes produce predictable reactions in most people.

Collins was speaking at the Scoville Memorial Library as part of a lecture series sponsored by the Salisbury Association Historical Society Saturday, April 14.

Collins said when 50 people see pipers coming down the street, 47 will clap politely.

“Two will say ‘Oh, that’s the pipes! Quick, get a picture, Henry!’”

“And one will quietly turn and gag.”

Collins’ talk was breezy and informal. “The bad news is I do not have a PowerPoint presentation. This is live and extemporaneous.”
