Gearheads prove their mettle at robotics competition

HARTFORD — In their very first FIRST competition, the Northwestern Robotics Gearheads Team 4055 at Northwestern Regional High School in Winsted came away with one of the top awards, Rookie All Star, earning them an invitation to nationals.

They also fostered doubts that they even qualified.

“I can’t believe they are a rookie team,” several volunteers on the playing field said after an impressive two days of competition among 64 robotics teams March 29-31 at the Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional.
