Plants take steps to avoid future leaks


NORTH CANAAN — Specialized equipment was donated to North Canaan’s emergency services teams by Specialty Minerals and Minteq Inc.

A need was identified during a safety meeting following a propane gas leak at the companys’ Daisy Hill Road plants in January.

The leaking connection on the newly installed 35,000-gallon tank forced the evacuation of businesses and homes within a mile radius early on a frigid Saturday morning.
