Joseph Shoplack

TOLLAND, Mass. — Joseph Shoplack, 80, died Feb. 23, 2011, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Johanna (Stemmer) Shoplack who died in 1988.

Born Jan. 24, 1931, in Larksville, Pa., he was the son of the late Catherine (Potak) and Peter Shoplack. He had lived in Tolland since 1989.  Prior to his retirement, he had been self-employed in the home construction and land development business. He was a marine veteran of the Korean War, a graduate of Bridgeport Engineering School and volunteer for the Council on Aging in Tolland. He was also a lay leader at Tolland Congregational Church.

His survivors include one son, Knut E. Shoplack of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; a sister, Nancy Lapke and her husband, Thomas, of Ft. Meyers; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Evans. 

Graveside services will be held in the spring at Winchester Center Cemetery in Winchester Center. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tolland Congregational Church, Tolland MA 01034. To leave an online condolence, visit maloneyfuneral.com.
