First victory for the Beth Johnson bill in Hartford


NORTH CANAAN — Raised House Bill 6499, which includes the so-called Beth Johnson bill, made it through committee at the state Legislature last week.

Johnson, a teacher at North Canaan Elementary School (NCES), proposed a separate kindergarten-through-grade-12 certification endorsement for computer and information technology teachers.

Johnson recently earned a master’s degree in computer education, but her basic certification, for kindergarten through grade six, would preclude her from teaching technology in a kindergarten-through-grade-eight school, such as NCES.
