COLEBROOK —  The state branch of the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted 10-year-old Ayla Fritz’s wish on Thursday, March 30, by unveiling a treehouse at her family’s home.

Launched in 1986, the foundation’s goal is to fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

According to a press release, the Connecticut chapter has fulfilled more than 2,700 wishes since its inception.

Fine Italian food at annual meal

COLEBROOK — The Colebrook Congregational Church held its fourth annual Italian dinner at the Colebrook Senior and Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Sunday school students Alex Farnham, 12, Sophia D’Urso, 11, Ellie Oaks-Rogers, 12, and Madeline Campbell, 13, wore Italian-themed hats and greeted residents at the door.
Alex said he has helped with the event every year since it started.

COLEBROOK — The historic Colebrook Store reopened to an eager crowd on Saturday, Dec. 13. 
The store, which opened its doors at 6 a.m., has been closed for the past nine months.

Christmas comes early to Colebrook

COLEBROOK — The town was alive with holiday cheer on Saturday, Dec.13, for the annual holiday fair.
“The fair is a great community event, and all of the local community organizations are included,” Janet Fredsall, co-director of the Colebrook Senior and Community Center, said about the event.
The event began at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast with Santa in the Fellowship Hall of the Congregational Church.

Postmaster retires

COLEBROOK —  While the weather outside was drearily cold and wet, the atmosphere inside  Town Hall was warm and cheerful on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6,  for a ceremony honoring Postmaster Howard Wisell.
Wisell will retire at the end of December after serving as the town’s postmaster for the last 15-and-a-half years.

COLEBROOK — More than 40 residents attended a fireside chat at the Seymour Inn Colebrook Center  on Friday, Nov. 14. 
The event was hosted by the Colebrook Historial Society, (CHS) and will be the last of their Friday night gatherings for 2014.

Wine, cheese and auctions aid school

COLEBROOK — The Colebrook Consolidated School PTO held its fourth annual wine-tasting event on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Colebrook Community Center.
The $25 ticket price included unlimited samplings of wine, beer, cheese and the chance to participate in silent and live auctions. Grinders were donated by Carbones Sandwich Shop in Torrington, as well as baked goods and vegetables by local residents.

Camp Jewell gets spooky with Halloween party

COLEBROOK — Camp Jewell held its annual Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The staff, along with various volunteers, worked all day to make the event a success.
The boathouse, dining hall and other parts of the camp were decorated for Halloween.
Halloween music played, including “Monster Mash” and “Ghostbusters.”

Colebrook General Store to reopen

COLEBROOK —  The Colebrook Store will be open for business again soon, possibly as early as December. 
The General Store, located at 559 Colebrook Road, is one of the oldest continuously operating stores in the area and first opened in 1812.

School holds benefit for fifth-grade class

Fifth-graders from Colebrook Consolidated School held a pumpkin and mum sale at the school on Saturday, Oct. 18, in order to raise funds for a field trip.

COLEBROOK — A pumpkin and mum sale to raise money for the Colebrook Consolidated School’s fifth grade class trip to Cape Cod was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the school’s gymnasium.
There were raffles and food items for sale including hot dogs, corn chowder, meatball subs and baked goods.
The event was held and organized by parents of the fifth-graders.
