Earl W. Bostrup

SALISBURY — Earl W. Bostrup died April 20, 2019, at Sharon Hospital at the age of 91.  He was the loving and devoted husband of Margaret T. Bostrup for 63 years.

Howard ‘Butch’ Clarence Duntz Sr.

NORTH CANAAN — Howard “Butch” Clarence Duntz Sr., 75, of Canaan Valley Road, died April 25, 2019, at Sharon Hospital. 

He was the husband of Colaine (Davide) Duntz. 

Howard was born July 29, 1943, in Pittsfield, Mass., the son of the late Abbie (Coons) and Roy Duntz.

Howard and Colaine met in 1961 and spent the last 58 years together. They were inseparable for their 56 years of marriage. Howard was a family man who will always be cherished by his loved ones. His great sense of humor will truly be missed. 

Matthew C. Nagle Jr.

NORTH CANAAN — Matthew C. Nagle Jr., 80, passed away on  April 24, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. Matt, known to his friends as “Champ,” was born on July 8, 1938, in North Canaan, the son of the late Matthew C. Nagle Sr. and Alice (Gandelli) Nagle. 

Matt grew up in North Canaan but spent his last two years of high school in Florida with his father. He graduated from  Miami Jackson High School in 1956 and returned to North Canaan. Matt proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps.  

Anita Estelle Cady

NORTH CANAAN — Anita Estelle Cady, 70, passed away in North Canaan on April 9, 2019. 

She was born on Jan. 24, 1949, in Endicott, N.Y., to Mable (Thomas) and Leon Cady, the third of eight children.  

After graduating from Union Springs Academy, she graduated from Atlantic Union College with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology.  She was employed by New England Memorial Hospital, Stoneham, Mass., prior to moving to Brunswick, Maine.  She worked for Parkview Hospital until her retirement in 2014.      

Barbara Mary Nicholls

SALISBURY — Barbara Mary Nicholls, a longtime Salisbury resident and formerly of New York City, died in Boston on March 14, 2019. She was with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was born in England in 1939, to Margaret (Shanks) and Harry Nicholls. In 1946, the family moved back to Australia, the birthplace of her parents. They lived in Melbourne until moving again to Larchmont, N.Y., in 1960. Barbara attended Rye Country Day School and Mount Holyoke College. 

Marilyn (Hecht) Checkla

NORTH CANAAN — Marilyn (Hecht) Checkla, 88, died peacefully at Geer Village in North Canaan on April 22, 2019, with her children at her side. 

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 19, 1930, to Rose (Goldberg) and Hyman Hecht. 

She married Stanley Checkla on Sept. 9, 1950, and they were blessed to share 67 years together. Stanley predeceased her on Aug. 1, 2017.

Robert ‘Rob’ Edward Casey

KENT — Robert “Rob” Edward Casey, 81, passed away on April 13, 2019. 

He was born March 4, 1938, in Tor-rington to Margaret (Knight) and Harry J. Casey.

He was, most recently, a longtime resident of Stonington, Conn. Before that he lived in suburban Hartford, in Middlesex, Vt., and in San Francisco, Calif. 

Elizabeth (Adotte) Adam

EAST CANAAN — Elizabeth (Adotte) Adam, 52, of Sandy Hook, Conn., passed away on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019, from complications related to breast cancer. 

Deirdre Teresa (Thompson) Epstein

AMENIA — Deirdre Teresa Thompson Epstein, 50, a lifelong resident of Amenia, passed away on March 18, 2019, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven. 

Deirdre worked at several different retail stores. She was known as a fashionista who always knew the appropriate gift for all occasions. 

Born on Feb. 25, 1969, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Murphy) and Kenneth Thompson. 

Deirdre was a graduate of Webutuck High School, Class of 1987. She later attended the University of New Haven. 

Barbara Hosier

AMENIA — Barbara Hosier passed away with her loving family by her bedside on April 11, 2019. She was a resident of Noble Horizons and former resident of Amenia.

Born at Sharon Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Louise Brendline.

She was predeceased in 2002, by her husband, George, and father to her surviving sons, Gregg and his fiancée,  Nancy, and Don and his wife, Melissa.
