Matthew L. Holderman

NORTH CANAAN — Matthew L. Holderman, 46, of Canaan Valley died Aug. 18, 2019, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. 

He was the husband of Jill K. (Beaucock) Holderman. 

Matthew was born Oct. 9, 1972, in Carson City, Nev. He was the son of Janet Lou (Skeith) Holderman of Kansas City, Mo., and the late Calvin Lawrence Holderman Jr. 

Matthew worked as a self-employed home improvement contractor. He also was a guide and trapper at Orvis Sandanona in Millbrook. Matthew loved the outdoors. 

Charles Amandus Bachman

SALISBURY — Charles Amandus Bachman, 96, who was born in Bristol, Conn., on Nov. 6, 1922, son of the late Eva (Fehm) and Charles L. Bachman, died Aug. 11, 2019, at Noble Horizons.  

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sara Clair (Robertson) Bachman; and his son, Charles Bachman.  

Mr. Bachman was educated at Pratt Institute and served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  

A memorial service at Noble Horizons in Salisbury will be held on Sept. 9.  Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk Palmer Funeral Home. 

Leroy William ‘Bing’ Irving III

PINE PLAINS — Leroy William “Bing” Irving III, 78, passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2019, in  Sparta, Tenn.  

Bing was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Pine Plains, the son of Leroy William Irving II and Eleanor June (Swart) Gobillot.

Bing graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1958. He married  Jean “Skip” Stuart in 1960.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by their daughter, Lori Kieras; and a brother, Craig Leon Gobillot. 

Katherine J. Genito

LAKEVILLE — Katherine J. Genito, 84, a lifelong area resident died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, with her loving family at her bedside. 

Katherine worked as a facilitator at Sharon Hospital. Her career at Sharon Hospital lasted nearly 60 years. She did everything from answering telephones to looking after the children of physicians who were caring for patients at the hospital, and anything else that ensured the day-to-day needs of a country hospital were met.  

Robert G. Silvernail

NORTH CANAAN — Robert G. Silvernail, 77, died Aug. 18, 2019, after being stricken at his home, surrounded by his loving family. 

Robert was born July 21, 1942, the son of the late Pauline (Dietter) and George Silvernail.

Robert worked for many years as a utility man in the kitchen of the Berkshire School in Sheffield. He was a lifelong member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church. 

Robert was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed horses and bird watching. Robert was also an active member of the Canaan Rod and Gun Club.

Carol Virginia Buckley

SHARON — Carol Virginia Buckley, 80, of Newburyport, Mass., passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, after a brief illness.

Carol was born to the late William and Aloise (Steiner) Buckley on Nov. 12, 1938, in New York City. She was the 10th and youngest child of a prominent American political family.

She attended the Noroton School, Convent of the Sacred Heart during her high school years and had an undergraduate degree and master’s in social work from Marymount Manhattan College.

Alice Shoemaker Runge

MILLERTON —  Alice Shoemaker Runge, 94, of Millerton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, to be with the Lord, on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019. 

Alice was born on March 20, 1925, to William and Ruth. She was raised in South Bound Brook, N.J., enjoying a very happy childhood alongside her late siblings, Robert and Marion. 

Alice attended Trenton College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching, specializing in work with the deaf.

Katherine J. Genito

Alan S. Kemp

PINE PLAINS — Alan S. Kemp, 38, passed away on Feb.21, 2019, due to a heart attack.

Alan was born on April 16, 1980, to Keven (Audrey) Kemp and Cheryl (John) Worrall.

Alan is survived by his son, Ian, who shares Alan’s love for hunting, fishing, RC cars, RC airplanes and most of all dirt bikes.

Other survivors include two brothers, Ryan (Brandi) and Kyle (Jamiee); a stepbrother, Josh (Danielle); and three stepsisters, Ashley, Tina, Deidre (Weston).

Roy E. Sherman

ANCRAMDALE — Roy E. Sherman, 87 passed on Aug. 8, 2019, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1932, in Stanfordville, N.Y., a son of Ruth (Shook) and Ralph Sherman Sr.

A lifelong area resident, he previously resided in Ancramdale, Millerton and Lakeville. He had been employed on the Sommerhoff Dairy Farm in Ancramdale prior to his retirement.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret C. (Miller) Sherman, in 2010.
