Maj. Daniel O’Connell

SHARON — Retired United States Marine Corps Major Daniel John O’Connell, 78, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2019. 

He was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Sharon, the son of Ruth (Swain) and Eugene Daniel O’Connell.

Dan served in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years. He began as a private and worked his way up to a major. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded many commendations and medals. He retired as a part of Aviation Ordnance.

Melode Brasher

KENT — Melode Brasher, who lived most of her life at the Brasher home, Chickadee Valley, near Kent, died on May 27, 2019. 

Born Feb. 3, 1938, she was 81 years old. Melode was the daughter of Milton Evans Brasher, and Marie A Brasher. Although Melode struggled to survive the cancer from which she suffered, she lost that final battle.

After graduating from Drew University, Melode taught in the public school in Dover, N.J., and at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Conn. 

Arthur J. Batacchi

SHEFFIELD — Arthur J. Batacchi, 99, longtime owner of the former Batacchi Dairy Farm on Lime Kiln Road in Sheffield, passed away on June 8, 2019 at home.

A native and lifelong resident of Sheffield, Arthur was born at home on May 31, 1920, the son of Maria (Polastri) and John Batacchi.  Known as Jimmy in his early years, he attended the Lime Kiln one-room schoolhouse and began farming as a teenager.

Peter Donald Schultz

SALISBURY — Peter Donald Schultz, who was born Nov. 30, 1959, died May 19, 2019.

He was a graduate of Housatnic Valley Regional High School, Class of 1977.

He played soccer and golf, loved skiing, and was on the ski team and chorus and supported a number of shows in the high school’s theater department. 

Jamie Wexler

SHARON — Jamie Wexler, 37, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2019, at his home in  Philadelphia, Pa., with his wife by his side. 

He was born on Dec. 26, 1981, in Pittsfield, Mass., to Jim and Karin Wexler of Sharon. 

In October of 2018, Jamie was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive cancer. He fought a valiant eight month battle, never complaining, and remained positive and optimistic throughout.

Memorial service: Louise Hannegan

LAKEVILLE — Friends and   family, we are gathering in Lakeville on Sunday, June 30, to hold a memorial service for Louise “Weezie” Hannegan, to celebrate her long, illustrious life. 

We are planning a lunch for  everyone at the house/boathouse (49 Canterbury Lane) around noon and will  have the burial at 2 p.m. at the cemetery in Salisbury. Then the Rev. John Carter will lead a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury at 3 p.m., followed by a short gathering. 

Le Anne Schreiber

ANCRAM — Le Anne Schreiber, who died on May 31, 2019, was born on Aug. 4, 1945, in Evanston, Ill. Her father, Newton, worked in the photography division of Life magazine, and her mother, Beatrice, was a homemaker.

Marion S. Carley

NORTH CANAAN — Marion S. Carley of North Canaan and Venice, Fla., also known as “Molly” to her family, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2019. 

Marion was born in Portage Lake, Maine, in 1931, to Violet (Bernard) and Bertrand Sutherland. She was the youngest of four brothers and three sisters.

For 20 years she worked as a nurse’s aide for children with disabilities and birth defects, sharing her natural charisma and nurturing personality with the community. 

Lillith P. Barlow

DOVER PLAINS — Lillith P. Barlow, 67, a 10-year resident of Staatsburg and formerly a longtime resident of Dover Plains and Wassaic, died on June 7, 2019, at home.  

Ms. Barlow was a medical secretary and worked for several medical offices in the area.  

Born on Feb. 6, 1952, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Harold D. Peterson and Shirley Ensign.  

She was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1970.
