Anna-Pearl C. ‘Pearl’ Madaras

SHARON — Anna-Pearl C. “Pearl” Madaras, 92, died April 8, 2019, at Sharon Hospital.  She was the widow of Joseph Madaras.  

Pearl was born May 27, 1926, in Sharon, the daughter of the late Marietta (Dyer) and Thomas Cathcart.

Pearl was employed as the cafeteria manager and the dietary manager at Sharon Hospital  She worked at the hospital for over 40 years.  

Edward B. Carter

GALLATIN, N.Y. — Edward B. Carter, 77, passed away at home on April 12, 2019.  

He was born on Sept. 6, 1941, in Lakeville, the son of Virginia (Kimble) and Edward T. Carter. 

He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1959. He attended Oliver Wolcott Technical School in Torrington and became a plumber for the Conneticut Plumber’s Union. He then worked for Perotti & Sons before becoming  a self-employed plumber. 

He was a member of the Empire Driving Club, of which he was a past officer.

Aldea Elizabeth Buckley

WASSAIC — Aldea Elizabeth Buckley, 85, a longtime resident of Wassaic, passed away on March 29, 2019, at Sharon Health Care Center. 

Mrs. Buckley worked as a housekeeper at Wassaic developmental center for 25 years, later working in food service at Webutuck Schools and as a certified nurse assistant. 

Born on Sept. 11, 1933, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Marie (Caron) and Everett  Buckley. 

On Sept. 24, 1955, in Amenia, she married Charles Buckley, who predeceased her on Jan. 13, 1987. 

Harold P. Smith

GOSHEN — Harold P. Smith, 90, passed away on April 11, 2019, at Pomperaug Woods Health Center in Southbury, Conn. 

He was predeceased by his parents Mabel (Quinn) and Philip Smith; his wife, Marcy (Frey) Smith; his son, Kevin Smith; his brother, Edward Smith; his son-in-law, Michael Savan; and his sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith.

He was born in New Haven, Conn., on March 14, 1929, and attended Spring Glen Grammar School and Hamden High School. 

Grace (Nutt) Smith

SHARON — Grace (Nutt) Smith passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2019, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by family and friends. 

She was born on May 27, 1942, to the late Jean (Taylor) and Vincent A. Nutt in Burlington, Vt. It was in the halls of Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village that she met Ray Smith in 1958, whom she would marry after graduating from Albertus Magnus College in 1964. Grace and Ray would have celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage this September. 

Patrick Hobart Hare

CORNWALL — Patrick Hobart Hare died peacefully April 11, 2019, after a long series of illnesses. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Pat was born on Long Island, N.Y., on Nov 22, 1941. His parents, Montgomery Hare and Mary Sturgess Hare, moved the family to Cornwall when Pat was an infant.

He attended Cornwall Consolidated School, Rumsey Hall School, Groton, Dartmouth,the Southern Illinois University (SIU), where he received a degree in design, and the University of Edinburgh, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Urban Planning.

Kenneth H. Knapp

CLINTON, N.Y. — Kenneth H. Knapp, 77, passed away as a result of an unfortunate accident on April 10, 2019.  

He was born on Nov. 27, 1941, in Rhinebeck, the son of Mable (Plankenhorn) and Harold Knapp. 

He and his two children are all alumni of SUNY Cobleskill. 

Mr. Knapp was the Superintendent of Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake in Verbank, N.Y. 

He proudly served his country with the United States Army in the Military Police during the Korean War. 

Lawrence Farnham

MILLERTON — Lawrence Farnham, who was born April 30, 1958, died suddenly on Dec. 8, 2018. 

Carol O’Hall

KENT — Carol O’ Hall, 82 of Kent died March 30, 2019. She was the loving wife of Walter C. Hall for 62 years.  

Carol was born April 9, 1936 in Calais, Maine, the daughter of William and Marie (Watson) O’Brien. 

She graduated from Housatonic Valley Region High School in 1954, and married Walter on May 19, 1956.  

Herbert Gilbert Day Jr.

MILLERTON — Herbert Gilbert Day Jr., 86, of Millerton, beloved husband of Evelyn (Silvernale) Day, passed away on March 22, 2019, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease at Noble Horizons Nursing Home in Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Oct. 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Blanche (Seaman) and Herbert Day.

Herbert graduated from the Oak Wood School in Poughkeepsie and completed a degree in photography at RIT in Rochester, N.Y.
