Reginald Norris

SHARON — Reginald Norris died April 21, 2011, of cancer. He was born in Jacksonville, Ill., on July 28, 1936, to Mary (Schultz) and Reginald Norris.

After completing his military service obligation he moved to New York City and worked at various jobs while pursuing a business degree at New York University.

He worked over the years for Banker’s Trust, REA Express, Diversified Mortgage Investors, Interway and Transamerica. For the past 20 years he worked as a consultant helping small companies with financial and partnership issues.

Stephanie (Layton) Schwarze

PAWLING, N.Y. — Stephanie (Layton) Schwarze, 34, passed away suddenly on April 21, 2011, at home.
In her typical way of serving others, she kept her suffering and disease process hidden from family and friends to keep them from suffering.

She was born in Sharon on June 16, 1976, the daughter of Jane H. and James “Mott” Layton of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Stephanie was well-known for her hard work and her desire to succeed. She unselfishly helped many people in her lifetime as a good person, as a nurse and as a yoga instructor.

Charlotte Newton

KENT — Charlotte Newton, 96, of South Kent, passed away on April 16, 2011, at the Kent Health Facility. She was the wife of William H. Newton.

Mrs. Newton was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Danbury, daughter of the late Clara (Beyer) and Eric Hagman. She was a graduate of Kent Center School, Connecticut State College and the University of Connecticut, where she excelled in basketball and field hockey.

Margaret A. (Tisserand) ‘Peggy’ Murphy

NORTH CANAAN — Margaret A. (Tisserand) “Peggy” Murphy, 61, of Deely Road died April 23, 2011, at the Winsted Health Center after being stricken at her sister’s memorial service reception. She was the wife of Eugene A. Murphy.

Margaret was born Dec. 18, 1949, in Winsted, daughter of the late Hazel (Barnes) and George Tisserand.

Otto Mahn

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. — Otto Mahn, 75, a resident of the town of Beekman, died March 24, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, as a result of complications of an aortic aneurism.

Born on Aug. 15, 1935, in Hamburg, Germany, Otto was the son of Lotte and Franz Mahn. At age 15, while attending school in Germany, he began his formal training to become a butcher. After completing his training, he worked on cruise ships for several years.

Richard Gop

MILLERTON — Richard Gop passed away on April 17, 2011, at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Va., at the age of 50.

He was the son of the late Shirley and Harry Gop.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Breen and her boyfriend, Curtis Colgate, of Virginia, and Ashley’s mother, Cara Breen; his sisters, Christine Way and her husband, Tom, of Texas and Sharon Marcantonio of Torrington; two brothers, Bruce Gop and his wife, JoAnn, of Millerton and Timmy Gop and his girlfriend, Mary, of Winsted; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Cody.

Memorial service - Christopher Leone

SALISBURY — A burial service will be held on Thursday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the Salisbury Cemetery for Christopher Leone, 42, who died Dec. 27, 2010.

The Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan is in charge of arrangements.

Lorraine (Nye) Eliot

CORNWALL — Lorraine (Nye) Eliot, 95, a longtime summer resident of Cornwall Bridge, died peacefully March 22, 2011, in Seattle, Wash., after a long, full life.

Lorraine was born in New York City on Sept. 13, 1915, and lived there through her years at New College, which was an experimental precursor to Barnard College. She was the daughter of Helen Mounfortt and Frank Wilson Nye, and the granddaughter of two writer-journalists; Wade Mountfortt, who was an editor for the New York Times, and Bill Nye, who founded the Laramie Bee.

Memorial service - Irma Carlotto Riva

NORTH CANAAN — Irma Carlotto Riva, 91, of Dacula, Ga., and formerly of North Canaan, died Dec. 17, 2010. She was the widow of Oresta “Red” Riva.

Mrs. Riva was a native of Housatonic, Mass., and had lived in the Atlanta, Ga., area for the past five years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan.

Mariba A. Lasher

RHINEBECK, N.Y. — Mariba A. Lasher, 71, passed away on April 13, 2011, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
She was born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 7, 1939, the daughter of Bertha and Pete Deyo.

Mrs. Lasher was a homemaker.
