Mavis E. (Cole) Cross

NORTH CANAAN — Mavis E. (Cole) Cross, 88, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2018, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation with her family by her side. She was the widow of Arthur B. Cross, who predeceased her in 2012.

Mavis was born on Sept. 12, 1930, the daughter of the late Kathleen (Green) and Walter Cole. She grew up in Salt Point, N.Y.

Mavis was a devoted wife to Arthur for 57 years. She was a homemaker and the proud mother of six children. 

Stephen Timothy Utterback

SHARON — Stephen Timothy Utterback, 58, of Sharon, cherished and dear husband of Carol Denise Graham and loving father of Raimie Leigh Utterback, died in his sleep on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. 

Kenneth Leroy McClelland

MILLERTON — Kenneth Leroy McClelland, 55, a lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly at his home in Millerton on Nov. 12, 2018, following a brief illness. 
Mr. McClelland worked in the maintenance department at the Kildonan School in Amenia for many years. He also worked for New York state and for his close friend John Horton.
Born May 22, 1963, in Sharon, he was the son of George McClelland of Pennsylvania and Judy (Foster) Murphy of Millerton.

John ‘Jack’ Ritchie Jr.

SALISBURY — John “Jack” Ritchie Jr., 97, died on Nov. 8, 2018, in Salisbury at Noble Horizons, where he and his wife, Sue, had lived since 2005.

He was the son of Constance (Tyrrell) and John Ritchie. 

David K. Sims

LAKEVILLE — David K. Sims of Lakeville and Vero Beach, Fla., died peacefully on Nov. 10, 2018, with Jennifer, his beloved wife of 49 years, by his side. 

Born in Chicago in 1935, David graduated from The Choate School and Williams College and began his business career as a broker in Chicago. He moved to New York City in 1972, where he continued a successful 41-year career in the financial industry, retiring in 2001 from a senior position with Merrill Lynch. 

Nina (von Moltke) Kaletsch

WEST CORNWALL — Nina (von Moltke) Kaletsch, 75, of West Cornwall died Nov. 15, 2018, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Otto A. Kaletsch and loving mother to her three sons.

Mrs. Kaletsch was born Oct. 4, 1943, in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of the late Marina (née Princess Kazbek) and Helmuth von Moltke, and older sister to Tino Langfeld. 

Craig Leon Gobillot

SHARON — Craig Leon Gobillot, 66, of Gay Street, passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2018, at Sharon Hospital. He was the loving husband of Susan (Cheney) Gobillot and beloved father of Garrett Michael Gobillot. 

Born on Jan. 4, 1952, in Sharon, he was the son of the late Eleanor (Swart) and Leon Gobillot. 

Craig graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School as well as Oliver Wolcott Technical High School. He dedicated his career to working for Taylor Oil, Inc., for more than 30 years. 

Frank J. Kohl

SALISBURY — Frank J. Kohl, 91, a longtime resident of Amenia and formerly of Mamaroneck, N.Y., died Nov. 10, 2018, at Noble Horizons.  

Mr. Kohl owned and operated Kohl’s Mamaroneck Movers for 21 years, retiring in 1992. 

Born on June 15, 1927, in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Bergin) and Frank A. Kohl. 

He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.  

On June 3, 1951, in Mamaroneck, he married Frances DeFazio, who died on July 17, 2011.  

Henry ‘Hank’ Vollmer III

ASHLEY FALLS, Mass. — Henry “Hank” Vollmer III, 85, of Ashley Falls, passed away at his home on Nov. 1, 2018, after a lengthy illness.

Henry was born on Dec. 9, 1932, to Alta (Rockefeller) and Henry Vollmer Jr. of Hollis, N.Y. In his early years, his parents moved to Forest Hills, N.Y., where Hank, as he was known by family and friends, spent most of his childhood and where he eventually met his wife, Diana Brookfield, in 1957.

Fredrick W. Palmer

FALLS VILLAGE — Fredrick W. Palmer, 79, died Nov. 7, 2018, at Valerie Manor in Torrington, Conn. 

Fred was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Torrington, the son of the late Elizabeth Ann (Lorch) and William Lathrop Palmer.

Fred worked for many years for the town of Canaan/Falls Village. He retired as the foreman of the Highway Department. After retiring, he continued working at the Falls Village Transfer Station as well as the North Canaan Transfer Station.
