Peter Bailey

AMENIA — Peter Bailey, 68, of Amenia passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 23, 2019, taking with him his sense of humor, integrity, wisdom, pride and devotion to his family and friends that will be so sorely missed by all who knew him.  

Although the entire community knew him as “Dad,” he had a very special way of keeping his sons and grandchildren and, by extension, their families and friends, under his wing through loving jabs, tailgate talks and crash courses in the school of hard knocks, as many who stepped out of line can attest.  

Howard James ‘Windy’ Milton Jr.

MILLERTON — Howard James ‘Windy’ Milton Jr. died peacefully on Nov. 25, 2019, at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Aiuvalasit Jr

SALISBURY — Anthony “Tony” Aiuvalasit Jr., 70, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, after suffering a massive arterial bleed in his brain.   

Born on Sept. 3, 1949, Tony spent the majority of his childhood in Houston Texas.  A proud graduate of Strake Jesuit High School, Rice University and the New England School of Law, he was a practicing attorney  for over 45 years.  

Sipho Alexander Msipa

NORTH CANAAN — Sipho Alexander Msipa, 24, died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019. He was the son of Anne Fitzgerald of North Canaan and Charles Msipa of Harare, Zimbabwe.

Richard J. Cook

NORTH CANAAN— Richard J. Cook, 73, passed on Friday morning, Nov. 15, 2019, at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was the husband of Deborah (Munzel) Cook.  

Richard was born in Great Barrington on July 21, 1946, the son of John Cook and the late Helen (Dezieck) Cook.

Richard worked for 44 years at Stadium System in North Canaan.  He was employed as an equipment reconditioner.  

Barbara (Korteweg) Spohn

FALLS VILLAGE — Barbara (Korteweg) Spohn passed from this world on Oct. 14, 2019. 

She was born in Paterson, N.J., on July 11, 1937, the daughter of Helen (Gilmour) and Bert Korteweg.  

Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Spohn and his wife, Sandra Doerr, and her beloved grandson, Aidan Spohn, all of Norwalk, Conn.; and her daughter, Kate Spohn and her husband, Michele Fancello, of Yonkers, N.Y., and France.  

Douglas Craig Metz

SHARON — Douglas Craig Metz, 77 of Sharon and formerly of Garden City, N.Y., and Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Nov. 14, 2019,  at home. 

Craig was born on Oct. 13, 1942, in Garden City. He attended the United States Naval Academy and worked for Grumman Aircraft, Inc., at the Johnson Space Center in Florida. 

He retired as vice president of Huntington and Kildare, a real estate holding company on Long Island.

The Rev. Edwin Michael Ward

SALISBURY — The Rev. Edwin Michael Ward passed away peacefully in his home on Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Oct. 29, 2019, at 92 years old. 

Ed was a natural leader with a deep faith in a Living God; a gentleman of grace, character and integrity; an inspiring speaker and preacher of profound intellect and insight. He devoted his life to serving the people he loved, the Church he cherished, and the young men he taught, counseled and mentored. His welcoming home was always filled with the dogs he loved, and Dixieland and Big Band Jazz. 

William Franklin ‘Bill’ Mayhew

AMENIA — William Franklin “Bill” Mayhew, 75, a lifelong Amenia resident and most recently of Valatie, N.Y., died peacefully on Nov. 16, 2019, at The Grand at Barnwell in Valatie following a lengthy illness. 

Mr. Mayhew was a machinist and supervisor for Kent Manufacturing in Kent for more than 37 years prior to his retirement.

Born Nov. 25, 1943, in North Canaan, he was the son of the late Mary Margaret (Canavan) and Theodore John Mayhew. 

James W. Killmer Jr.

AMENIA — James W. Killmer Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Amenia, passed away Nov. 15, 2019, at his home. 

Mr. Killmer was a mechanic at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

Born on July 3, 1939, in Pleasant Valley, N.Y., he was the son of the late Margaret (Eckerline)  and James W. Killmer Sr. 

On Jan. 14, 1961, at the Gridley Chapel in Wassaic, he married Ynes Hughes, who survives at home.
