Bombers football defeated in championship game

PINE PLAINS— While they fought hard throughout the season this fall, the Stissing Mountain High School varsity football team ended its season with a loss in an eight-man championship game on Saturday, Nov. 3.
The Pine Plains Bombers competed against Tri–Valley at Dietz Stadium, in Kingston.

PINE PLAINS— While the program might not be instituted in the Pine Plains school district this year, the Pine Plains Board of Education (BOE) hasn’t given up on the idea of reinstating  wrestling in the district.
At the BOE meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3, Superintendent of Schools Martin Handler recaped a presentation given by local coaches Tom Strudwick and Jim Baker at a July 11 meeting. As the district offers only basketball as a winter sport, the coaches proposed offering wrestling to provide students with another athletic option.

Pine Plains Bombers defeat Pawling Tigers 40-38 in overtime play

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains varsity football team brought home a victory after competing against Pawling High School on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Rescheduling the competition from Saturday, Oct. 27, to Sunday, Oct. 28, the game was held at F.D.R. High School in Hyde Park.

Stissing Mountain success

Bombers’ homecoming triumph

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains varsity football team recognized senior players at a homecoming game against Sullivan West on Friday, Oct. 19.
Long before the game was ready to kick off at 7 p.m., the parking lot in front of Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School was packed with the cars of families, classmates and football enthusiasts who came out to support the Bombers. In the distance, the Stissing Mountain football field lights were illuminated for the homecoming game. Players wore pink sashes around their waists in support of breast cancer awareness.

Lady Warriors win at Senior Night: Girls soccer defeats Pine Plains, ties Rondout Valley, loses to Rhinebeck

WEBUTUCK — The Webutuck varsity girls soccer team celebrated on Monday, Oct. 15, as seven seniors were recognized and the team defeated Pine Plains in a divisional match.
Among the senior players, Webutuck Coach Mark Moren called up Hannah Lounsbury, Katherine Nethercott, Sofia Stefanopoulos, Kimberly Baeza-Jimenez, Vanessa Ibarra and Hannah Parks to congratulate them. The majority of the seniors were accompanied by their parents, and the team’s underclassmen read aloud a brief speech in honor of each senior athlete.

Lady Bombers volleyball celebrates senior players, defeats Onteora Valley

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains varsity volleyball team on Tuesday, Oct. 16, recognized senior teammates and faced off against Onteora Valley High School.
The teams and their families assembled in the Stissing Mountain Senior High School gymnasium, which had been decorated for the occasion with blue and white streamers and balloons. On the far right wall, the team’s underclassmen hung homemade posters that congratulated the seniors and wished them luck.

The late Jacob Stickle honored

WEBUTUCK— Webutuck teachers and faculty members embraced their inner child at the Jacob Stickle Kickball For a Cause held on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Presented by the Webutuck Teachers’ Association (WTA), the event was held in honor of Jacob Stickle, a former Webutuck student who passed away from cancer in 2012 at the age of 9.
