SHARON — Peter Cordeau, chief executive officer of Sharon Hospital, affirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing maternity services “for the foreseeable future” on Monday, Dec. 3.
The occasion was a “State of Sharon Hospital” report to the community at Sharon Town Hall.

Dec. 3 at Sharon Town Hall: Update on Sharon Hospital

SHARON — Sharon Hospital will host its second State of the Hospital community update at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at Sharon Town Hall.
 Members of the surrounding communities are invited to hear from Sharon Hospital President Peter Cordeau as he provides updates on new services and challenges ahead, and discusses changes made at the hospital since joining Health Quest in August 2017.
A question-and-answer period will follow Cordeau’s presentation.

Library program traces the sad life of an iconic humorist

SHARON — Adam Van Doren screened and discussed his documentary film about Cornwall humorist James Thurber at a program held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Sharon Town Hall. The event, sponsored by the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, drew an audience of 60 Van Doren-Thurber fans.
Co-produced with his wife, Charlotte, the 2000 documentary titled “James Thurber: The Life and Hard Times,” probed the remarkable life of a famed humorist who longed for success as a serious writer in the vein of Henry James, his literary idol.

State Police reveal the name of driver killed in car crash

SHARON — The identity of the driver of a car who was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Oct. 3 has been released. State Police said on Tuesday, Oct. 16, that the driver was Gaelen Schwindt of Sharon. Schwindt’s obituary appeared in the Oct. 18 edition of The Lakeville Journal.
Oct. 3 was Schwindt’s 22nd birthday. 
The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. on that date, on West Cornwall Road near Mount Easter Road in Sharon. Schwindt was driving a  2010 Mazda sedan. There were no passengers in the car.

Celebrating a musical legacy

SHARON — Last month, 75 devoted aficionados of traditional folk music — singers and musicians, professionals and amateurs alike — gathered at Sharon’s Silver Lake Conference Center to mark 58 years of Folk-Legacy Records, the legendary independent folk-music label run by longtime Sharon residents Caroline Paton and her late husband, Sandy Paton.

A blessed day in Sharon for our furry families

SHARON — Christ Church in Sharon hosted its third annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 7, and it was happily attended by many affectionate and adorable four-legged parishioners and their devoted owners. 
The ceremony started in the church’s Pet Memorial Garden, where the Rev. Elizabeth Krantz-Wee read a moving and appropriate verse and a prayer for all present. 
Awaiting blessing were dogs, one fine horse and one timid cat, who decided the odds weren’t good and stayed in his box.

Birthday party for Ellsworth fire station

SHARON — The Sharon Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ellsworth Station on Saturday, Oct.13, at 7 Dunbar Road in Sharon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
There will be a dedication and plaque ceremony, station tour, touch-a-truck and fire safety information as well as hayrides. Ice cream and light refreshments, will be served. Everyone is invited to attend.
